The police who are probing the kidnapping and murder of an 8-year-old were left confused after they failed to find the body from the spot where they believed to have been buried by the accused.

The accused have been identified as Manjit Kaur (50), her son Manjinder Singh and an accomplice Harjinder Singh. They were booked for the kidnapping and murder of a 8-year-old child at Ramdas police station Tuesday. However, the police suspect that the prime motive for kidnapping was not murder but child trafficking. Police later arrested Manjit and Harjinder during a raid. During interrogation, she told the police that she killed the 8-year-old and allegedly buried him at a particular location.

But when the police reached the spot, they failed to recover the body. “She has been repeatedly changing her statement. It seems they are involved in child trafficking. The body is not yet recovered yet. It would be early to assume he is dead,” said SSP Amritsar, Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh.
