Two days after a mother-daughter duo were killed in Baltana, the police is yet to ascertain the motive behind the double murder. Police is also not ruling out the possibility of a rape.
Police claims that it is working on various leads, but so far nothing concrete has come forward. Shikha (45) and her 16-year-old daughter Priyanka,a Class X student were found murdered on Thursday evening on the second floor of their house.
We are investigating the case, but so far the motive behind the murder could not be established, said Zirakpur Station House Officer (SHO) Yogi Raj.
Sources said that police conducted raids on Saturday at various places in Mohali and Chandigarh,to nab Vineet Kumar, who was named by Shikhas elder daughter Anchal as one of the suspects in the murder.
We are on the lookout for Vineet, son of a Manimajra-based jeweller, who has been named as a suspect by Anchal, but he has been on the run since, said police sources. Vineet had reportedly called a police officer in Mohali and said that he will surrender today, but after the call he had switched his cellphone off and remained out of reach.
Sources said that Shikhas husband Pradeep Jindal has also denied his role in the murder. The police said that after the complaint, against her father and friend,Anchal had changed her statement.
Today she told us that her father has no role and when we asked her about Vineet, she said that she didnt know his mobile number. She is in a state of shock,so we cannot question her properly, said a police officer.
Anchal was part of a group of four girls that had allegedly stripped and filmed their friend with a mobile camera in September last year in Panchkula and later circulated the semi-nude MMS among her friends.
While we suspect a link between the double murder and the MMS,we are also probing other angles into the case, said the police officer.
Police is also scrutinising the call details of victims phone number and also questioned a few persons who were in constant touch with her over the phone.
Mohali police is also not ruling out rape and they are waiting for the medical report. We recovered two used condoms at the room where the two were murdered. We are waiting for the medical report which will establish that whether the two were raped before the murder . There was no forced entry into the house and no weapon was recovered from the spot, a police officer said.
