The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Saturday issued interim stay orders on Punjab government’s decision to re-employ retired Patwaris and Kanungos in service on contract basis.

The decision came from the court headed by Justice Jaswant Singh while issuing notice of motion to the Punjab government for filing its reply by September 23 on a petition filed by 23 residents of Rupnagar district.

The petitioners challenged the state government’s decision dated August 5 confining the consideration of the candidature for appointment to the post of Patwaris only by inviting the applications from amongst the retired or superannuated Patwaris or Kanungos on contract basis.

It was submitted that the recruitment is being made from amongst the superannuated Patwaris or Kanungos who also do not fulfill the qualifications as per the amended rules.
