The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation would introduce smart management system at all the 25 paid parking lots in the city.

In the meeting of Finance and Contract Committee on Friday, a decision was taken to invite e-bids from companies for managing the paid parking lots and installing high tech facilities for the commuters.

The facilities will include a mobile application that will enable the residents to know about the live status of parking in the parking lots.
Also, there would be smart rechargeable cards for entry at the parking lots, which will be made at the e-sampark centres. The parking lots will be made fully automatic with boom barriers.

At present, 10 parking lots out of the 25 are lying vacant since nine months and the civic body has suffered a loss of nearly Rs 3 crore.
After the municipal corporation found parking contractors violating norms and indulging in overcharging, the officials decided to rope in big companies to manage the parking lots.
