Family is the focus of Subah Kab Hogi,a three-day theatre festival that highlights social issues and the status of the family in the modern world. Organized by Citi Entertainment Network,a city-based organisation that promotes art and culture, all three plays in the festival have been directed by Gaurav Sharma. “We regularly organise these festivals to give a platform to young actors and writers,’’ says Gaurav.

The festival begins on September 10,with Subah Kab Hogi, written by Girish Bakshi. The play explores how small misunderstandings between two characters result in anxiety and personal discontent. “This time we have two acts, while the play has only two characters. We wanted to focus on powerful scripts, hence the format,’’ explains Gaurav.

Nitu Sharma presents a solo act in Khidki Band Kar Do,in which she plays a divorcee who faces personal and professional challenges due to her marital status. The emotional, practical and mental pressures on a divorced woman is at the core of this play. The festival concludes with Nirmal Verma’s Dedh Inch Uppar, another solo act, this one by Ashish Sharma. Set in a bar,the play is a sensitive account of how a lie between a loving couple results in disastrous circumstances.

The festival will be held at Punjab Kala Bhawan,Sector 16,Chandigarh,from September 10 to 12
