Eight new dengue cases in Chandigarh, total reaches 18

An official said the health department are sending teams to inspect areas from where the cases were reported to conduct fumigation.

Eight new cases of dengue have been reported in the city, taking the total number to 18 so far this year.

Among the 18 cases, officials said the PGI campus has reported the highest number with four. Officials said cases have been reported from PU, PGI, Sector 41, Daria, Maloya and others.

An official said the health department are sending teams to inspect the areas from where the cases were reported and conduct fumigation to prevent the spread of the disease in the city. In 2015, the total number of dengue cases was 985, the highest since 2011.

The health officials said they have strengthened the surveillance activities in the city. “The department is already on toes to prevent the spread of dengue in the city. We are witnessing cases, but the number in comparison to the neighboring states is less,” said an official.

According to the health officials, house-to-house survey is being conducted to check stagnant water points and mosquito breeding conditions. “We have a round-the-clock helpline working to answer the queries of people,” said an official.
