Chandigarh: Two killed, five injured inseparate accidents, 2 held

According to the police, an Activa rider was killed in an accident in Shastri Nagar in IT Park area on Wednesday evening after he was hit by a Maruti car.

Two people were killed while five were injured in separate road accidents in the city. Police arrested two people in these cases.

According to the police, an Activa rider was killed in an accident in Shastri Nagar in IT Park area on Wednesday evening after he was hit by a Maruti car.

“A case was registered on the complaint of Surinder Singh, a Zirakpur resident, who reported that on Tuesday evening, he saw a Maruti car coming fast from Manimajra side to Railway Light point and hitting an Activa scooter,” said a police official from IT Park police station. “Due to this collision, Activa driver suffered grievous head injuries. He was admitted to Eden hospital in Phase 1, Industrial Area, where he succumbed to injuries.”

The deceased was identified as Neeraj Kumar, who worked as the Assistant Superintendent in Civil Secretariat. “During the course of investigation, accused Arun Kumar, a Manimajra resident, was arrested in the case and released on bail later,” said the official. In the second accident, which happened late on Wednesday evening at the railway point, the police said two vehicles collided, leaving five people injured. “They were shifted to hospital, and all of them are stable. The driver who hit the Polo car is absconding,” said Assistant Sub-Inspector Jaipal Singh from IT Park police station.

In another accident, the police said one person driving a Swift car hit an autorickshaw, resulting in the death of 50-year-old woman. “The complainant in the case, Surinder, a resident of Sector 26, alleged that the driver of Swift car hit his auto in which his mother got injured and was admitted to PGI,” said a police statement, adding that the woman later succumbed to injuries. “A case under sections 279, 337, 304-A of Indian Penal Code has been registered at Maloya police station, and accused has been arrested.”

Investigation officer of the case Tejpal Singh said that the accident happened on the intervening night of April 16-17. The deceased was identified as Sentro Devi, a resident of Bapu Dham Colony.
