The traffic police have issued a plan for the city ahead of the Independence Day function at the Parade Ground in Sector 17 on Monday.
A statement issued on Friday said traffic restrictions or diversions will be imposed by the police on the Independence Day. “The road users are therefore advised to make use of alternative routes during the given timings. Inconvenience caused to the general public on account of these restrictions is regretted,” the statement said.
According to the plan, the stretch from roundabout of Sector 16/17/22/23 up to small rotary near Gurdial Singh Petrol Pump in Sector 22-A on Udyog Path, another one from the crossing sector 16/17 up to roundabout of sector 16/17/22/23 on Jan Marg and the third one from light point near Lyon’s Restaurant in Sector 17 up to the Parade Ground will remain closed to the public with vehicles from 7am onwards on Monday.
The statement said the road closure will last till the function at the Parade Ground is over.
The advisory, further said, no parking shall be allowed in the parking area in front of the shops in the market of Sector 22-A from 7am onwards till the function is over.
“The VIPs and senior officers with authorised car parking labels on their vehicles shall be allowed entry from the roundabout of sector 16/17/22/23 on Udyog Path and they can park their vehicles in the parking area in front of the market in Sector 22-A. The general public can park their vehicles in the parking area of Sector 22-B adjacent to the Blood Disease Hospital in Sector 23-B, on the rear side of Neelam Cinema Sector 17, in the parking of Football Stadium and in the Circus Ground Sector 17,” said the statement, adding
all the buses coming from Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and other places to the ISBT in Sector 17, Chandigarh, shall be diverted towards the ISBT Chowk from Bajwara Chowk and Piccadilly Chowk via Himalya Marg.
Around Punjab Raj Bhawan
According to the police, the stretch from the roundabout of sector 5/6/7/8 up to the T-Point near the Golf Club and from the T-Point near Punjab Raj Bhawan towards the residence of the adviser to the administrator will remain closed on Monday to the general public from 2pm onwards till the function at the Punjab Raj Bhawan is over.
