Chandigarh municipal polls: New party to contest all 26 seats

Party president Amrik Singh said they would field candidates from different sections of the society.

Saadi Soch Party, a new political outfit, has announced to contest all 26 seats in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation elections scheduled to be held in December.

Party president Amrik Singh said they would field candidates from different sections of the society. “The party has formed a three-member committee for selections of candidates who will contest the elections. So far, we have shortlisted the name of Sunita Thakur, who would contest from ward number 2,” said Amrik. He added that the names of remaining candidates will be announced shortly.

J P Sharma, the general secretary of the party, said those willing to contest can submit their applicants, which will be scanned by the committee. “The party will contest the elections on civic issues. We want to work for the betterment of the city residents by fighting for their rights,” Sharma said.

The party has also decided to contest the Punjab Assembly elections in January. Party senior vice-president Prem Garg said they have a strong support of NRIs. Gurdeep Singh Grewal, an NRI from Canada, has been made the chief adviser of the party. Grewal said a large number of NRIs have joined the party.
