Angry People outside the district court complex Saturday allegedly ‘roughed up’ the two main accused Tajender Singh and Chander Sharma in the case pertaining to the murder of four-year-old Yug Gupta. The third accused, Vikrant Bakshi, however was spared.

The police accompanying them watched helplessly as the crowd thrashed both accused.

In a bid to bring the situation under control, the police along with the Rapid Action Team used force to disperse the mob and get the accused to safety.

“They should be hanged. They have no right to live. They are an insult to society. How can they become so inhuman and torture a small child?” asked Navneet, a youth in the crowd.

After the accused were presented, the court, after hearing the plea of investigation officer of the CID, sent them to judicial custody.

Meanwhile, the town witnessed a series of protests organised by students of RKMV college, residents from the area where the water tank is located and the SFI, which took out a candle march to seek justice for the murdered child.

Members of Shimla Press club also organised a peace march in the town.

The CID Saturday recorded statements of the parents of all the three accused. Mother of Tajender Singh said that he should also be dumped inside a water storage tank. Similarly, the family of Chander Sharma said that will respect the court’s verdict in the case.
