The agenda pertaining to renovation of the office of Senior Deputy Mayor Davesh Moudgil will come up for approval before the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) at its meeting scheduled for Monday.

However, makeover of his office has already started.

The senior deputy mayor said that only the work on renovating the washroom in his office was started, that too by following the proper procedure by calling in tenders and this was a routine doing up which the room required.

“The condition of the office was really bad, especially the washroom. The engineering work just started with installing fixtures in the washroom. Tenders have been called in and proper procedure has been followed. The agenda is for routine whitewash and flooring,” said Moudgil.

However, sources said that the work stopped midway as the agenda of renovation was to be brought to the Finance and Contract Committee for its approval first.

Not only the senior deputy mayor, but the committee would also discuss the approval for expenditure of renovation work in Mayor Arun Sood’s office. An amount of Rs 1.38 lakh is likely to be spent on Sood’s office while Rs 1.17 lakh will be spent on Moudgil’s office.

In a first-of-its-kind, triple blinds are being installed in their offices by replacing the curtains. In the triple blinds, apart from completely dark and completely lit-up, there would be a provision for partly dark and partly lit-up as well. In Moudgil’s office, flooring, tiles and paint will be done.

The renovation is being undertaken despite the fact that the new extension of the building, which will be ready soon, will have proper furnished rooms of the mayor, senior deputy mayor and other councillors.

“When the new building already has their rooms which would be properly furnished, why is the money being wasted?” asked Congress councillor Subhash Chawla.

While money on Sood’s office would be spent from the mayor’s fund, it would be spent from the general fund on Moudgil’s office.
