The Central Crime Branch (CCB) unit of the Bengaluru police have rescued a Nepali girl who was being held captive by a wealthy businessman at an apartment in south Bengaluru. The businessman, who took the woman to his flat promising her a job in a beauty parlour, has been arrested.
The accused has been identified as Vinod Malhotra, 61, a resident of Doha in Qatar. Police rescued the girl on the basis of a tip-off from a Malaysian national who reported to the police that a girl was being sexually harassed by an elderly man who had kept her captive in an apartment in Hulimavu. The police conducted a raid on the apartment on the basis of the tip off. The police found that Malhotra who had met the girl on August 11 had taken her to his apartment with a promise of a job. At the flat he allegedly locked up the girl and sexually harassed her. The girl managed to communicate her situation to some friends who tipped off the police.
The police found that Malhotra owned luxury apartments in many places in Bengaluru and visits India once in three months to stay in one of his vacant apartments. The rescued Nepali girl was sent to a rehabilitation centre. A case of immoral trafficking and attempt to rape has been registered against Malhotra by the Hulimavu police.
