Torrent Power on Friday signed a turnkey EPC (engineering,procurement and construction) contracts with with Siemens AG,Germany and Siemens Limited,India,for expansion of its existing SUGEN mega power project,involving a 382.5-megawatt gas-based combined cycle power
The contract also include setting up of a 1,200-mw gas-based combined cycle power project,a greenfield DGEN project at the Dahej Special Economic Zone.
While UNOSUGEN is being established under the aegis of Torrent Power Limited (TPL),DGEN is being established under the aegis of Torrent Energy Limited,the wholly-owned subsidiary of TPL. The two projects are expected to be completed in three years,adding 1,600 mw of power generation capacity to the Torrent fold.
Torretn group chairman Sudhir Mehta said: Considering the rapid growth plans that India has set for itself in the coming years,the demand for power will increase manifold.
The UNOSUGEN and DGEN projects are Torrent Powers contribution in meeting the growing demand for electricity in the country and particularly in Gujarat.
