BJP general secretary Ram Madhav expressed confidence that the new cabinet in Jammu & Kashmir will be “strong”. He was here to inaugurate Institute of Leadership and Governance at the Maharaja Sayajirao University on Saturday.

He also appealed to young leaders to come forward as the “era of dynasty” in politics has come to an end.

Madhav, who held a closed door meeting with J&K MLAs on Saturday, refused to divulge details about the discussions for the government formation, following the death of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed. Madhav said, “We have met the J&K MLAs and we are hopeful of reaching a political agreement for the new government formation, in order to strengthen the J&K cabinet.”

Replying to a query on Subramanian Swami’s statement that Rajiv Gandhi had promised support for the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, Madhav said it would be good to have a “united consensus” on the issue. “When all are united about the issue, we will construct the Ram Mandir,” Madhav said. The BJP leader also hailed the steps taken by the NDA government is to improve the quality of education.

Interacting with the students and faculties of MSU, Madhav stressed on the need to support leaders coming from a poor background as the era of ‘caste and family dynasty’ in politics was coming to ‘an end’. Urging the youth to take to politics, Madhav said, “There can be no training to make leaders for they are born. Many are born into poor families and do not know what to do, but we will support them. Politics requires passion.”

Madhav said that it is most important to “preserve the diversity” of India and build strong young national leaders at all levels for a “beautiful future”.

On nation’s security concern, Madhav said: “God knew he would be called partial for blessing India as being the only country with both knowledge and prosperity. So, he gave us neighbours like Pakistan and China to be fair. We believe that if someone treats us badly, we should do justice, righteously and with competence. Chinese scholar Confucius spoke of the moral disposition to do justice.”

Madhav said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working hard to ‘eradicate poverty’, not just reduce the numbers. “There is no definition of poor in India. We consider that those who earn more than Rs 30 are not poor. Modiji is working hard to eradicate poverty.”

Madhav said it was a fact that India has become unsafe for women. Questioning the mindset of pointing fingers at women, he invoked Draupadi from Mahabharata as he said, “No body abused Draupadi for having five husbands. She was respected for the person she was, not for her gender. Today, we ask girls why they are out of their homes after 7 pm. The time has come to make men accountable.”
