Eve-teasing triggers clashes,man killed

One person was killed and several others injured in clashes that broke out at Hathijan village in Kanbha Taluka of Ahmedabad district on Saturday following an eve-teasing incident during the kite festival.

One person was killed and several others injured in clashes that broke out at Hathijan village in Kanbha Taluka of Ahmedabad district on Saturday following an eve-teasing incident during the kite festival.

Four houses and three motorcycles and bicycles were torched and two groups attacked each other with sticks and plastic pipes,the police said,adding that a mob also ransacked house of the accused and the housing society he lives in.

The deceased was identified as Arvind Rajput from Vinzhol area. He had gone to his friend Bharat Vanzara’s house in Radhe Shyam Society at Kanbha to celebrate the kite festival. The incident occured when a few men from the neighbouring house passed some comments on Vanzara’s wife.

The police have identified six suspects,all labourers from Bihar who stay in Kanbha and work in Vatva GIDC factories.

Meanwhile,police in Dahod district arrested more than 12 persons for rioting on Friday night after a clash between two communities sparked by eve-teasing.

The police said the accused torched a handcart,but the situation was brought under control before it got out of hand.

“It was a fallout of an eve-teasing incident which allegedly led to the clash between two groups,” said a police official.
