City mayor Gautam Shah accompanied by Municipal Commissioner Mukesh Kumar visited the V S Hospital here on Monday to take stock of treatment for dengue patients, including about 26 junior doctors, in the four special dengue wards. The doctors have been undergoing treatment for the past eight weeks. Meanwhile, four new cases of dengue were admitted in the V S Hospital on Monday. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will deploy jawans of home guard along with paramedical staff in the dengue awareness campaign, Shah said.
“The AMC has decided to deploy Home Guard jawans in the dengue awareness campaign on the hospital campus and elsewhere from tomorrow onwards,” Shah added.
According to him, the junior doctors living in hostels had installed cooler without the permission of NHL Medical College authorities causing the mosquitoes to breed. This could have led them to be hit by dengue, he said.
He said the survey of 6 lakh households was carried out by the AMC in the past 12 days to detect mosquito-breeding centres. “These houses are belonging to builders, chartered accountants, doctors, including IAS officers, from where mosquito-breeding was detected.”
