A city-based builder has lodged an FIR with Paldi police station stating that a person claiming to be Mumbai-based gangster Ravi Pujari has been making frequent calls to extort money. According to the FIR the builder received phone calls and text messages asking for protection money.
The builder, Paresh Patel, lodged the FIR with Paldi police station where he said that from October 23 to December 9 he has received eight phone calls and three text messages from international numbers. He said that the caller identified himself as “Ravi Pujari” and asked protection money. Patel has said in the FIR that initially he thought it must be prank but gradually when the calls started coming frequently he took it upon himself to inform the police.
Paldi police officials said that the calls have been made using internet and therefore it is difficult to locate the caller. The FIR doesn’t mention the amount which the caller sought from Patel. Police said that they are not ruling out any possibility, including Pujari’s name being used by someone else for extorting money. Patel has been in construction business for the past two decades, He has constructed residential and commercial units in the city.
