ACB nabs three in Kutch region of Gujarat for taking Rs 4 lakh ‘bribe’; in Rs 2000 notes

Inspector H M Kansagra said that Rudreshwar Sunamudi worked as middleman for the two KPT officer.

Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials in Gandhidham town of Kutch district have trapped three people, including two officials of Kandla Port Trust (KPT), for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 4 lakh — all in new Rs 2000 notes, which were issued after demonetisation of old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes.

According to the ACB officials, a trap was laid Tuesday evening at the office of the complainant where one Rudreshwar Sunamudi had come to collect the bribe amount allegedly on behalf of superintendent engineer (class-1) Shrinivasu and sub-divisional officer identified as Kumtekar. All the three accused have been arrested.

Inspector H M Kansagra said that Sunamudi worked as middleman for the two KPT officer. Sunamudi received the bribe amount of Rs 2.5 lakh allegedly for Shrinivasu and Rs.1.5 lakh for Kumtekar.

According to Kansagra, after receiving the amount, Sunamudi spoke with Shrinivasu over phone, while Kumtekar’s phone was not reachable. Besides, the ACB has also recovered Rs 40,000 cash from the accused’s house during Wednesday’s search. The conversations have been recorded in a device which was kept in the office of the complainant.

The inspector said “the bribe was demanded by the accused to settle a showcause notice issued against the complainant”.

The ACB officials said that Shrinivas has issued the notice against the complainant’s firm for unfulfilled work. The complainant’s company is engaged in providing service for HT electrical line maintenance and material supply to the KPT.


The ACB officials said the work had been completed and bills were pending with the accused office.
