The V S Hospital superintendent on Wednesday issued showcause notice to four resident doctors and an associate professor, all attached with the department of medicine, for allegedly not admitting a 11-year-old boy who was in a critical condition and later died due to lack of medical attention.
Shoeb Sama, who was from Kutch district, was brought to the hospital around 3 am on Tuesday and died around 8 am in the outpatient department (OPD). He was suffering from brain fever or inflammation of the brain. Hospital superintendent Dr S T Malhan issued the notice under instruction from mayor Gautam Shah, who is ex-officio chairman of the V S Hospital Board of Management. The notice were issue to Dr Dhara Roy, associate professor in the department of medicine, and resident doctors Nil Palkhiwala, Priyank Patel, Vivek Patel and Nirav Chovatiya.
Shah said further action would taken after their replies to the showcause notice.
“A video clipping shows that the patient was taken in the emergency ward for 15 minutes, and then he was sent out,” Shah said. The boy’s father alleged that the residents doctors on duty “shooed” him away thrice from the emergency ward.
