Ford India, on Thursday, announced the introduction of the iconic Mustang in the country. First launched in the year 1964, the Ford Mustang is now in its sixth generation globally. Interestingly, it’s only the sixth generation model that received a right-hand-drive version. For over 50 years, this iconic sportscar was sold to only left-hand-drive markets.

“Throughout its long history, the Ford Mustang has been a symbol of optimism and confidence for people all over the world,” said Nigel Harris, president, Ford India. “The new Mustang is a modern interpretation of the American icon, and we are thrilled to be giving our customers in India the opportunity to experience this piece of automotive history for the first time.”

Here are 5 thing you should know about the India-bound Ford Mustang GT:

1# The Ford Mustang GT features a 5.0-litre, V8 engine that is good for a maximum power of 420bhp and 529Nm pf peak torque. The new-generation model’s engine features an upgraded valve-train and cylinder heads. It also features a new intake manifold that helps improve low-speed breathing for better idle stability, fuel economy and emissions.

2# The India-bound Ford Mustang will be brought to India as a completely built up unit (CBU) from the United Kingdom (UK) where the right-hand-drive versions of the sportscar are being developed.

3# The sixth generation Ford Mustang certainly looks more contemporary than before, but it retains key design elements of the original Mustang like long sculpted hood and short rear deck. Though the elements that render it a slightly modern look are – lower roof height, wider rear fenders and track.

4# Besides regular safety features such as anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic stability control and airbags, the Ford Mustang gets some new-age features such as Blind Sport Information System (BLIS) that detects vehicles in blind spot to avoid any mishappening.

5# Features like Ford Sync 3 in-car entertainment system, push button start, power folding mirrors, rear camera, Selectable Drive Modes (SDM), passive entry and few more, make the new-gen model one of the ‘smartest mustang ever’.
