Before the festivities kick in, Ford will launch the new Figo hatchback on September 23, 2015 in India. The American auto giant recently launched the Figo Aspire sedan here, which has been received well by consumers in the country. Considering the Figo hatchback shares the same platform and most of the components with the compact-sedan (except for the boot, of course), it is bound to do well in the market.
The new Figo hatchback marks a remarkable change in terms of design from the outgoing model. Compared to the understated and classic lines of the currently sold Ford Figo, the new model amps up the aesthetic appeal of the hatchback. Up front, it flaunts the same large swept-back headlamps, Aston-Martin-esque chrome-slat grille, resculpted bumper etc., as seen on the Aspire sedan. Other styling elements like indicator-integrated ORVMs, blackened B-pillar, rear-spoiler, smart tail-lamps etc., complete the list of exterior highlights on the new Figo.

Inside, the dashboard design and layout is identical to that of the Aspire sedan.
However, unlike the compact-sedan’s dual-tone beige colour theme, the hatchback will receive a more sporty full-black theme with silver and piano black accents. Apart from that, the new Figo hatchback is expected to come equipped with the same set of features and creature comforts as available on the Figo Aspire. We also hope Ford to offer dual airbags as standard across the entire Figo hatchback range as it does with the Figo Aspire sedan. Higher variants will also get ABS with EBD while top-end variants may also be offered with 6-airbags.
Ford will offer the Figo hatchback with the same set of powertrains that are currently offered in the manual versions of the Figo Aspire. The petrol variants will come powered by a 1.2-litre Ti-VCT four-cylinder unit that deliver 88 PS of maximum power and 112 Nm of peak torque. The diesel version will feature the 1.5-litre four-cylinder TDCI motor that also does duty in the Aspire. This oil-burner is rated at 100PS/215 Nm . Both the engines are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. What remains to seen is whether Ford offers the new Figo with the Aspire’s more powerful 1.5-litre petrol engine mated to a 6-speed PowerShift dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The Ford Figo has been one of the most successful models in India for its maker. It was an instant hit at the time of its launch in March 2010, helping Ford’s market share to climb up gradually in the subsequent years. With the new model, Ford is expecting to receive a similar kind of response. Competition for the new Figo hatchback includes the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand i10, Tata Bolt etc.
