In contrast, when animals are hunted, some will be shot several times causing tremendous pain, but many others escape with one gunshot or flesh wound, and die later slowly.

A Nilgai, suspected to have strayed from Central Forest Reserve Area located on the backside of the President's Estate was rescued, its wounds were treated and after medical recovery will be sent to Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary in Delhi.

In 2011, then forest minister Sartaj Singh had floated a proposal to issue temporary licences to hunters and charge them Rs 5,000 for every nilgai (blue bull) they kill.

A nilgai had the UT Wildlife department on its toes for more than an hour as the employees attempted to handle the animal that had strayed into the residential complex of the Punjab Engineering College today.
