Budget 2016-17 provides boost to electronics manufacturing sector: Ravi Shankar Prasad

He said that with India emerging as a global hub of electronic manufacturing, the proposals relating to the sector were welcome. Sensex rises 700 points after government sticks to its fiscal deficit target

Mumbai, Mar 01 (ANI): Sensex rose sharply on Tuesday a day after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said the government would stick to its fiscal deficit target. The benchmark Sensex was trading 700 points higher where as Nifty was up by 220 points. Analysts said a commitment by Jaitley in the annual budget to meet the fiscal deficit target of 3.5 percent of the gross domestic product would raise confidence among foreign investors after heavy selling this year. A market expert, Sunil Shah, attributed the sudden jump in stock markets to the government decision to put money in farm sector to revive rural economy. Shah added that the coming monsoon will revive the growth and there will be a demand push because of the thrust given by the government towards the rural economy.

Petrol price reduced, diesel hiked

New Delhi, Mar 01 (ANI): The government on Monday lowered the price of petrol by Rs 3.02 per litre while the price of diesel was raised by Rs 1.47 per litre. The revised prices will take effect from the midnight of February 29 and March 1. The revision in fuel prices comes on a day when Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presented the Union Budget for 2015-16 in the Parliament. With this change, the price of Petrol in Delhi will become Rs. 56.61/litre while diesel will be available at Rs. 46.43/litre. People across the nation welcomed the reduction of petrol price, and hoped for further reduction in fuel price.

17 students critical after consuming mid-day meal in Palghar

Palghar (Maharashtra), Feb 26 (ANI): Over 100 students fell ill after consuming mid-day meal at a government-run school in Palghar district of Maharashtra. An official of the district education department Prakash Mokashi said action will be taken against the guilty. Jyoti Jadav, a student of the same school, said her stomach started aching after consuming the meal. 17 of the Kasa village primary school students are still critical.The police have sent food samples for tests to a laboratory in Mumbai.

Mentally unstable man climbs over train in Lucknow

Lucknow, Feb 26 (ANI): Railway officials had a tough time when a man likely to be mentally unstable climbed over the top of Doon Express. After half-an-hour struggle, the Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel succeeded in bringing the man down. Station Master RK Baghel informed that a high-tension wire running over the train created trouble in the rescue work. Eastern Railway's Doon Express runs between Howrah Junction and Dehradun.

New Delhi, Feb 24 (ANI): Reaching the Parliament to attend the ongoing Budget Session, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said he will raise the JNU issue in the Parliament but the treasury benches are scared of what he will speak and won’ t let him speak. Speaking to reporters, Rahul said that the government said they are open to a discussion but they will not let him speak as they are “scared” of him. Gandhi had yesterday accused the Modi government and RSS of crushing voices of dissent of college and university students across the country.
