Literary debate involving Pak poet cancelled in Ajmer on BJP ‘request’

A literary discussion on ‘shayari’ on either side of the border, between Indian poet and lyricist A M Turaz and Pakistani poet Abbas Tabish, scheduled for Monday evening in Ajmer district, was cancelled following a “request” from BJP district president Arvind Yadav.

Kolkata, Feb 17 (ANI): Condemning all the anti-national activities and slogans, Jadavpur University Vice-Chancellor Suranjan Das on Wednesday said the rally was not officially convened by students' union. He assured that action will be taken against the people involved in the protest after he gets a report. Das said he will never govern the university with police's help as the university is an autonomous body. He added that entire university can't be defamed by such anti-national elements. Das said that some intruders were also spotted in the rally and the matter will be looked into by the university. He emphasized that the Jadhavpur University has a history of maintaining the freedom of expression and the right to dissent.
