Amit Shah is the incumbent President of Bhartiya Janta Party and a close associate of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He held important positions under Modi's cabinet when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat and was made the President of BJP in July 2014 after Modi became the Prime Minister. Shah also managed the party's campaign in Uttar Pradesh for the General Elections where it performed exceptionally winning 73 out of 80 seats. Shah entered politics by becoming a member of the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad and later joined the BJP. Shah has also been a controversial leader and was accused of orchestrating fake encounter of criminal Sohrabuddin Sheikh and two others. His name also appeared in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case. He was appointed the chief of BJP for the second consecutive time in 2015. He is currently spearheading party's campaign for upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.

New Delhi, Feb 15 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Monday condemned the anti-national protests at the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus, saying that such activities would not be tolerated in the name of freedom of speech. Shah further criticised Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi for supporting the incident and asked that what more anti-India proof was required when students were shouting slogans like ‘har ghar me afzal honge', 'bharat tere tukkde honge’. He further said the Congress Party should make their stand clear as supporting such activities clearly indicated disrespect for the nation’s martyrs.
